This one was a 16.00-square roof (1,600 square feet), about what a standard ranch house carries on Edgewood Drive in Arnold, MO, a Jefferson County city where the Meramec meets the Mississippi. It was the second of 2 roofs we've finished on Edgewood Drive in the past few months. The system: two layers of synthetic underlayment, a heavier spec than our standard single layer, ice and water membrane in the valleys and at the eaves, and OC Supreme on top.

The roofing system on this house

Supreme is Owens Corning's three-tab shingle: a flat, even pattern that matches older three-tab roofs and works well on garages and small sections. Every one of our replacements is a system, not just shingles. On this roof, from the deck up:

  • Two layers of synthetic underlayment. That’s double our standard spec. The second layer adds another barrier under the shingles.
  • Self-sealing ice and water membrane where water concentrates. It seals around every nail driven through it, which matters in valleys and at the eaves.
  • OC Starter strip along every edge. The first course is where wind gets under a roof. A factory starter with its own sealant line locks it down.
  • OC ProEdge Hip & Ridge cap. Pre-formed cap that seals the hips and ridge.
  • Lomanco Omni Roll ridge vent. Continuous exhaust at the peak. Together with the soffit intake, it moves heat and moisture out of the attic.

Who did the work

John Beal Roofing crews out of our St. Louis office installed this roof. From the day the job was opened (August 29, 2026) to the day the crew finished (September 11, 2026) took 13 days. We’ve been family-owned since 1947. We run our own crews, and every roof comes with our lifetime workmanship warranty on top of the manufacturer’s material coverage. If a storm opens up a roof at 2 a.m., someone answers the phone. See 24/7 emergency service.

Questions homeowners ask about this project

What shingle was installed on this Arnold roof?

Owens Corning OC Supreme, over two layers of synthetic underlayment, a heavier spec than our standard single layer. The full system is in the project details table above.

What kind of ventilation went on this roof?

A Lomanco Omni Roll ridge vent along the peak. Paired with soffit intake, it lets hot, moist attic air escape.

Was ice and water shield installed?

Yes. Alco Ice & Water membrane went in the valleys and along the eaves, the spots where water backs up or collects first.

How big was the roof on Edgewood Drive?

16.00 squares, or about 1,600 square feet of roof surface. A roofing square is 100 square feet. Roofs are measured and priced that way, not by the square footage of the floor plan.
