Choosing a career in roofing sales offers a unique blend of professional independence and financial opportunity. At John Beal Roofing, a third-generation family-owned business with roots stretching back to 1947, we have built a sterling reputation, having successfully served over 50,000 customers. Joining our sales team means representing a trusted brand. Our commitment to doing business the right way has been recognized with the BBB Torch Award for marketplace ethics. Furthermore, we are an Owens Corning Platinum Preferred Contractor, a GAF Master Elite contractor, and a CertainTeed SELECT ShingleMaster.

Roofing sales is an inherently dynamic, field-based role that demands dedication, exceptional communication skills, and a continuous willingness to learn and adapt. For individuals who are highly driven and self-motivated, the financial rewards can be truly significant. Our commission-based pay structure allows successful Account Managers to directly impact their own earnings. Current sales rep postings state that earnings start at $100,000 per year, with no prior roofing experience required and full training provided. We encourage candidates to see each posting for its specific terms by visiting our careers page. We do not guarantee that every representative earns the exact same amount or receives the exact same volume of leads.

New Account Manager Training

We absolutely do not expect our new hires to know everything about the roofing industry on their very first day. Our comprehensive training program begins with a highly structured onboarding process that takes about two weeks to complete. This initial phase is designed to fully immerse new Account Managers in our unique company culture and the core fundamentals of the roofing industry.

During this period, new team members learn about our broad range of service offerings, including residential roofing, commercial roofing, storm restoration, general roof repair, and complete roof replacement, as well as gutters, siding, windows, and solar energy systems. This knowledge is critical for accurately assessing customer needs across all 10 of our local offices, including our St. Louis headquarters, Kansas City, Indianapolis, Springfield MO, Columbia, Jefferson City, Lake of the Ozarks, Farmington, Cape Girardeau, Southern Illinois, and the Paducah, KY area.

Inspection and Product Education

A highly successful roofing sales professional must possess the ability to conduct thorough, accurate property inspections and deeply understand the specific products they are recommending to property owners. Our rigorous training program includes detailed instruction on how to safely and accurately inspect roofs for various types of damage. Because this is a field-based role, our sales representatives must be comfortable working at heights.

Product education is a continuous part of the job. We consistently train our team on the specific materials provided by our trusted manufacturing partners, allowing our Account Managers to properly educate homeowners and business owners on the nuanced features and long-term benefits of different architectural shingles, synthetic underlayments, and ventilation products.

Retail Roofing and Insurance Restoration Processes

Our sales training curriculum covers both retail roofing projects and the specialized insurance restoration process. Retail roofing involves working directly with property owners who are proactively choosing to replace or repair their roofs. Training in this specific area focuses heavily on presenting the long-term value of our services and clearly explaining available financing options.

The insurance restoration process involves assisting customers whose properties have suffered sudden damage from severe weather events. We meticulously educate our sales team on how to expertly navigate this specific process, from the initial damage assessment to communicating effectively with the customer throughout their insurance claim.

Customer Communication

Effective communication is the absolute cornerstone of successful sales. Our training program heavily emphasizes the critical importance of clear, honest, and highly professional communication with every single customer. We teach our Account Managers how to actively listen to customer concerns, accurately identify their needs, and explain technical roofing concepts in plain language. Furthermore, we train our team on how to set accurate, realistic expectations for project timelines and material delivery.

Technology, Estimating and CRM

A major component of our training involves mastering IntelliBoss, our fully integrated CRM and business software platform. IntelliBoss is utilized daily for everything from initial lead tracking to generating precise estimates and managing complex project workflows. New Account Managers receive thorough training on how to utilize the IntelliBoss platform to its absolute full potential, allowing our team to stay meticulously organized and follow up promptly with all prospects.

Lead Management and Appointment Handling

Our training program covers industry best practices for lead management, including how to properly prioritize incoming inquiries and schedule appointments efficiently. We teach our team exactly how to approach each appointment with the utmost professionalism and a clear, structured strategy for assessing the property. While John Beal Roofing provides leads to our sales team, we also extensively train our Account Managers on how to proactively generate their own opportunities through effective networking and generating customer referrals.

Individual Performance and Accountability

At John Beal Roofing, we actively foster a culture of strict accountability. To support this, we hold mandatory weekly sales meetings where team members review their performance metrics and share successful sales strategies. In addition to these weekly meetings, new representatives participate in extensive ride-alongs with experienced Account Managers. We believe that continuous coaching is essential for long-term career development.

Sales Leadership and Advancement

We offer clear pathways for career advancement within our sales organization. A standout example of this commitment to internal promotion is Austin Maiden, our National Sales Director. Austin has been a vital part of the company since 2018 and has impressively worked his way up through nearly every job in the organization. In 2026, he took on the significant challenge of reopening and completely revamping our Kansas City office. Today, Austin oversees all hiring, training, and recruiting efforts for all of our markets.
