About the color: Frostone Grey
This house got Frostone Grey. A small swatch never tells the whole story, because a full roof reads lighter or darker depending on how the slopes face and the light hits them. Frostone Grey has been one of the more popular picks lately: it went on 61 of the roofs in this recent-projects set. If you like it, ask us to bring a full-size piece out and hold it up against your own house.
Materials installed, layer by layer
IKO Dynasty is a laminated architectural shingle built around a wide reinforced nailing strip IKO calls ArmourZone, which gives the installer a generous target and holds the fasteners where they belong. People shop for the shingle, but what’s underneath it and how the edges are finished decide how long the roof lasts. On this job:
- Synthetic underlayment, edge to edge. It doesn’t wrinkle or tear like felt, and it keeps the deck dry if a shower pops up mid-job.
- Ice and water membrane at the eaves and in the valleys. This self-adhering layer goes where water backs up: behind ice dams at the eaves and where two slopes meet.
- IKO Starter at the eaves and rakes. It’s a purpose-made starter strip with factory adhesive, not cut-up field shingles, so the edges stay sealed.
- IKO Hip & Ridge on the hips and peak. Matching cap shingles made for the job, not field shingles cut into pieces.
- Lomanco Omni Roll ridge vent. Continuous exhaust at the peak. Together with the soffit intake, it moves heat and moisture out of the attic.

How long did this project take from start to finish?
155 days from the day the job was opened to the day the crew finished. Most of that time is scheduling, material ordering and any insurance paperwork. The tear-off and install usually take a day or two on a house this size.
Was ice and water shield installed?
Yes. Alco Ice & Water membrane went in the valleys and along the eaves, the spots where water backs up or collects first.
