The color on this roof
The work order lists the color as Aspen Gray. That name isn’t in our Owens Corning TruDefinition Duration color gallery, so we’re not showing a swatch that might be the wrong one. The image above is the shingle line itself. Your project manager can bring a full-size sample of any color out to your house. You can also browse every OC Duration color here.
Materials installed, layer by layer
The feature that defines Owens Corning Duration is SureNail Technology, a tough woven fabric band in the nailing zone that the fasteners go through for better hold. People shop for the shingle, but what’s underneath it and how the edges are finished decide how long the roof lasts. On this job:
- A full layer of synthetic underlayment. It’s the backup water barrier under the shingles, and it holds up to foot traffic and wind far better than paper felt.
- Ice and water membrane at the eaves and in the valleys. This self-adhering layer goes where water backs up: behind ice dams at the eaves and where two slopes meet.
- Factory starter strip along every edge. The first course is where wind gets under a roof. A factory starter with its own sealant line locks it down.
- Owens Corning Hip & Ridge on the hips and peak. Matching cap shingles made for the job, not field shingles cut into pieces.
- Lomanco Omni Roll ridge vent. It runs along the peak and lets hot, damp attic air escape. That protects the decking and keeps shingles from baking from below.

What kind of ventilation went on this roof?
A Lomanco Omni Roll ridge vent along the peak. Paired with soffit intake, it lets hot, moist attic air escape.
Was ice and water shield installed?
Yes. Ice and water membrane went in the valleys and along the eaves, the spots where water backs up or collects first.
How big was the roof on North 96th Street?
17.33 squares, or about 1,733 square feet of roof surface. A roofing square is 100 square feet. Roofs are measured and priced that way, not by the square footage of the floor plan.
