On Herworth Drive in Chesterfield, MO (a West County city of larger subdivision homes along the I-64 corridor), the crew tore off and replaced a very large 63.00-square project, about 6,300 square feet of roof and several times the size of an average house. At 63.00 squares it was the second-largest of the 156 roof replacements we completed in September. The system: synthetic underlayment across the full deck, ice and water membrane in the valleys and at the eaves, and GAF Timberline HDZ on top.

What went on this roof
Timberline HDZ is GAF's architectural shingle with a wide StrikeZone nailing area and LayerLock Technology holding the two layers of the shingle together, so fasteners land where they hold best. People shop for the shingle, but what’s underneath it and how the edges are finished decide how long the roof lasts. On this job:
- Synthetic underlayment, edge to edge. It doesn’t wrinkle or tear like felt, and it keeps the deck dry if a shower pops up mid-job.
- Ice and water shield in the valleys and along the eaves. Those are the two places a Midwest roof takes on water first, from ice dams in January and heavy runoff in spring storms.
- OC Starter at the eaves and rakes. It’s a purpose-made starter strip with factory adhesive, not cut-up field shingles, so the edges stay sealed.
- GAF Hip & Ridge on the hips and peak. Matching cap shingles made for the job, not field shingles cut into pieces.
- Lomanco Omni Roll ridge vent. Continuous exhaust at the peak. Together with the soffit intake, it moves heat and moisture out of the attic.

Common questions about this job
What shingle was installed on this Chesterfield roof?
GAF GAF Timberline HDZ, over synthetic underlayment across the full deck. The full system is in the project details table above.
Was ice and water shield installed?
Yes. Alco Ice & Water membrane went in the valleys and along the eaves, the spots where water backs up or collects first.
What kind of ventilation went on this roof?
A Lomanco Omni Roll ridge vent along the peak. Paired with soffit intake, it lets hot, moist attic air escape.
How big was the roof on Herworth Drive?
63.00 squares, or about 6,300 square feet of roof surface. A roofing square is 100 square feet. Roofs are measured and priced that way, not by the square footage of the floor plan.
Do you publish the customer's address?
