The color on this roof
The work order lists the color as Black Sable. That name isn’t in our Owens Corning Supreme color gallery, so we’re not showing a swatch that might be the wrong one. The image above is the shingle line itself. Your project manager can bring a full-size sample of any color out to your house. You can also browse every OC Supreme color here.
Materials installed, layer by layer
Supreme is Owens Corning's three-tab shingle: a flat, even pattern that matches older three-tab roofs and works well on garages and small sections. The shingle is only the top layer. Here’s the full system that went on this house:
- A full layer of synthetic underlayment. It’s the backup water barrier under the shingles, and it holds up to foot traffic and wind far better than paper felt.
- Ice and water shield in the valleys and along the eaves. Those are the two places a Midwest roof takes on water first, from ice dams in January and heavy runoff in spring storms.
- Factory starter strip along every edge. The first course is where wind gets under a roof. A factory starter with its own sealant line locks it down.
- Owens Corning Hip & Ridge cap. Pre-formed cap that seals the hips and ridge.
- Lomanco Omni Roll ridge vent. Continuous exhaust at the peak. Together with the soffit intake, it moves heat and moisture out of the attic.
