Sagging Gutter, Fascia & Soffit Repair — Trotter Way, Florissant, MO 63033

On October 23, 2026 our crew repaired a sagging front gutter on Trotter Way in Florissant, MO 63033 after the homeowner got a City of Florissant letter with a deadline. The gutter was fine — the fascia and soffit behind it had pulled loose. We re-fastened all three and re-hung the gutter on hidden hangers in one visit, for about a third of the full replacement quote.

A city letter, a deadline and a gutter coming off the house

The call came in on October 6. The front gutter on a one-story home on Trotter Way was falling off, and the homeowner had a letter from the City of Florissant about it. Her roof was fairly new, so this wasn’t a roof problem — it was the gutter line. On October 22 she called back: the city’s deadline was October 24. The job moved to approved that morning, and the crew was on Trotter Way the next day at 9:00 a.m.

What we found: the gutter wasn’t the problem

When a gutter pulls away from a house, most people assume the gutter is shot. On this home the aluminum itself was still serviceable. The real issue sat behind it: the fascia board and soffit had shifted out of alignment, so the gutter fasteners had nothing solid left to bite into. Water and weight did the rest, and the front run started to sag.

That’s the difference between a repair and a replacement. We priced both. A full gutter replacement with the leaf protection reinstalled was one option. Fixing what was actually loose came in at about a third of that, and it solved the problem the city wrote her up for.

How the repair went, step by step

  1. Soffit and fascia first. The crew pulled the soffit and fascia back into line and re-fastened them to the framing, so the board behind the gutter was solid again.
  2. Gutter realigned. The front run was lifted back to pitch so water runs to the downspout instead of pooling in the middle.
  3. Hidden gutter hangers with longer screws. These brackets sit inside the trough and screw through the back of the gutter deep into the fascia. They grip far better than old spikes and don’t show from the street.
  4. Final check. The gutter sits tight to the house and holds its line — what the city wanted to see.

Got a gutter letter from the city? Read this first

North County homes from the 1950s and 1960s — much of Florissant — are at the age where original fascia boards soften and gutter fasteners work loose. If you get a notice:

  • Note the deadline and call early. Same-week repairs are often possible, as this one was.
  • Ask what’s actually failing. If the gutter is sound and the fascia is loose, you may not need new gutters at all.
  • Watch for rot. Water running behind a loose gutter rots fascia and soffit. Caught early, it’s a re-fasten; caught late, it’s board replacement.
  • Keep the paperwork. Photos and the completed work order help when you close out the notice with the city.

Questions homeowners ask about this repair

Does Florissant send letters about sagging or falling gutters?

Yes. On this Trotter Way job the homeowner received a letter from the City of Florissant about a front gutter that was falling off, with a deadline to fix it. Florissant inspects exterior property conditions, and a detached or sagging gutter is a common item on those notices.

Do I need a whole new gutter if mine is pulling away from the house?

Not always. Here the gutter itself was sound; it was sagging because the fascia and soffit behind it had pulled out of alignment. Re-fastening the fascia and soffit and re-hanging the gutter with hidden hangers and longer screws fixed it for about a third of what a full gutter replacement was quoted at.

What are hidden gutter hangers?

Brackets that sit inside the gutter trough and screw through the back of the gutter into the fascia board. They hold the gutter tighter than the old spike-and-ferrule style and don't show from the street.

How long does a gutter, fascia and soffit repair take?

The crew was scheduled for a 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. window on October 23, 2026, and the job was marked complete the same day. Most re-fasten repairs on a one-story home are a single visit.

Did this repair need a permit in Florissant?

No permit was required for this repair. Re-fastening existing gutter, fascia and soffit is maintenance, not a new installation.

Should I file an insurance claim for a falling gutter?

It depends on the cause. A gutter pulled down by wind, ice or a falling limb may be covered; one that sagged from age and loose fasteners usually isn't. We inspect it first and tell you honestly which one you have.
