What went on this roof
Duration is Owens Corning's best-known architectural shingle. The engineered, woven SureNail strip across the nailing line is what sets it apart: it gives nails a defined target and grip. Every one of our replacements is a system, not just shingles. On this roof, from the deck up:
- Synthetic underlayment over the whole deck. It’s stronger and more tear-resistant than felt, and it lies flat if weather rolls in during the tear-off.
- Self-sealing ice and water membrane where water concentrates. It seals around every nail driven through it, which matters in valleys and at the eaves.
- GAF Starter at the eaves and rakes. It’s a purpose-made starter strip with factory adhesive, not cut-up field shingles, so the edges stay sealed.
- Owens Corning Hip & Ridge on the hips and peak. Matching cap shingles made for the job, not field shingles cut into pieces.
- Lomanco Omni Roll ridge vent. Continuous exhaust at the peak. Together with the soffit intake, it moves heat and moisture out of the attic.

Questions homeowners ask about this project
What shingle was installed on this Frontenac roof?
Owens Corning OC Duration, over synthetic underlayment across the full deck. The full system is in the project details table above.
How long did this project take from start to finish?
169 days from the day the job was opened to the day the crew finished. Most of that time is scheduling, material ordering and any insurance paperwork. The tear-off and install usually take a day or two on a house this size.
How big was the roof on Bella Vista Drive?
80.00 squares, or about 8,000 square feet of roof surface. A roofing square is 100 square feet. Roofs are measured and priced that way, not by the square footage of the floor plan.
Was ice and water shield installed?
Yes. Alco Ice & Water membrane went in the valleys and along the eaves, the spots where water backs up or collects first.
