About the color: Sand Castle
Sand Castle is part of the OC Duration color lineup. Keep in mind a swatch is a starting point. On the roof, the color shifts with the angle of the sun, the pitch and what’s around it. It's a less common choice. Only 2 of our recent projects used it. Our project managers bring real samples to the house so you can see them next to your brick, siding and trim.
The roofing system on this house
Owens Corning TruDefinition Duration uses SureNail Technology, a woven strip across the nailing zone that gives the fasteners something to grab and helps the shingle stay down in high wind. The shingle is only the top layer. Here’s the full system that went on this house:
- Synthetic underlayment, edge to edge. It doesn’t wrinkle or tear like felt, and it keeps the deck dry if a shower pops up mid-job.
- Ice and water membrane at the eaves and in the valleys. This self-adhering layer goes where water backs up: behind ice dams at the eaves and where two slopes meet.
- OC Starter at the eaves and rakes. It’s a purpose-made starter strip with factory adhesive, not cut-up field shingles, so the edges stay sealed.
- OC ProEdge Hip & Ridge on the hips and peak. Matching cap shingles made for the job, not field shingles cut into pieces.
- Lomanco Omni Roll ridge vent. It runs along the peak and lets hot, damp attic air escape. That protects the decking and keeps shingles from baking from below.
The crew behind this roof
The crew came out of our Kansas City office. From the day the job was opened (August 28, 2026) to the day the crew finished (October 17, 2026) took 50 days. John Beal Roofing has been family-run since 1947, and our lifetime workmanship warranty covers the installation for as long as you own the home. If a storm opens up a roof at 2 a.m., someone answers the phone. See 24/7 emergency service.
