Materials installed, layer by layer

Owens Corning TruDefinition Duration uses SureNail Technology, a woven strip across the nailing zone that gives the fasteners something to grab and helps the shingle stay down in high wind. The shingle is only the top layer. Here’s the full system that went on this house:

  • Synthetic underlayment, edge to edge. It doesn’t wrinkle or tear like felt, and it keeps the deck dry if a shower pops up mid-job.
  • Ice and water membrane at the eaves and in the valleys. This self-adhering layer goes where water backs up: behind ice dams at the eaves and where two slopes meet.
  • OC Starter strip along every edge. The first course is where wind gets under a roof. A factory starter with its own sealant line locks it down.
  • OC ProEdge Hip & Ridge cap. Pre-formed cap that seals the hips and ridge.
  • Lomanco Omni Roll ridge vent. Continuous exhaust at the peak. Together with the soffit intake, it moves heat and moisture out of the attic.

The crew behind this roof

John Beal Roofing crews out of our Kansas City office installed this roof. The job was opened in our system on August 31, 2026 and the crew finished on October 29, 2026, 59 days later. We’ve been family-owned since 1947, and every roof comes with our lifetime workmanship warranty on top of the manufacturer’s material coverage. If a storm opens up a roof at 2 a.m., someone answers the phone. See 24/7 emergency service.
