The homeowner picked Driftshake from the IKO Dynasty line. The swatch above is the manufacturer’s image of that blend. On a real roof it will read a little different depending on pitch, which way each slope faces and how much sun it gets. It's a less common choice. Only 1 of our recent projects used it. That’s why we bring full-size samples out and hold them up against the house in daylight.
The roofing system on this house
Dynasty is IKO's performance architectural shingle. Its signature is ArmourZone, a reinforced fabric strip across the nailing area that gives every nail a wide, tough landing spot. The shingle is only the top layer. Here’s the full system that went on this house:
- Synthetic underlayment, edge to edge. It doesn’t wrinkle or tear like felt, and it keeps the deck dry if a shower pops up mid-job.
- Ice and water shield in the valleys and along the eaves. Those are the two places a Midwest roof takes on water first, from ice dams in January and heavy runoff in spring storms.
- IKO Starter strip along every edge. The first course is where wind gets under a roof. A factory starter with its own sealant line locks it down.
- IKO Hip & Ridge cap. Pre-formed cap that seals the hips and ridge.
- Lomanco Omni Roll ridge vent. Continuous exhaust at the peak. Together with the soffit intake, it moves heat and moisture out of the attic.
