The roofing system on this house

Duration is Owens Corning's best-known architectural shingle. The engineered, woven SureNail strip across the nailing line is what sets it apart: it gives nails a defined target and grip. Every one of our replacements is a system, not just shingles. On this roof, from the deck up:

  • Synthetic underlayment, edge to edge. It doesn’t wrinkle or tear like felt, and it keeps the deck dry if a shower pops up mid-job.
  • Ice and water membrane at the eaves and in the valleys. This self-adhering layer goes where water backs up: behind ice dams at the eaves and where two slopes meet.
  • Factory starter strip along every edge. The first course is where wind gets under a roof. A factory starter with its own sealant line locks it down.
  • Owens Corning Hip & Ridge cap. Pre-formed cap that seals the hips and ridge.
  • Lomanco Omni Roll ridge vent. Continuous exhaust at the peak. Together with the soffit intake, it moves heat and moisture out of the attic.

Questions homeowners ask about this project

What shingle was installed on this St. Louis roof?

Owens Corning OC Duration, over synthetic underlayment across the full deck. The full system is in the project details table above.

How big was the roof on Lilac Drive?

30.00 squares, or about 3,000 square feet of roof surface. A roofing square is 100 square feet. Roofs are measured and priced that way, not by the square footage of the floor plan.

Was ice and water shield installed?

Yes. Ice and water membrane went in the valleys and along the eaves, the spots where water backs up or collects first.

How long did this project take from start to finish?

34 days from the day the job was opened to the day the crew finished. Most of that time is scheduling, material ordering and any insurance paperwork. The tear-off and install usually take a day or two on a house this size.

Do you publish the customer's address?

No. We publish the street name, city and ZIP so you can see we really work in your neighborhood. We leave off the house number and never publish a customer's name.
