What went on this roof

The feature that defines Owens Corning Duration is SureNail Technology, a tough woven fabric band in the nailing zone that the fasteners go through for better hold. The shingle is only the top layer. Here’s the full system that went on this house:

  • 15 lb felt underlayment. Felt went down over the deck under the shingles.
  • Ice and water shield in the valleys and along the eaves. Those are the two places a Midwest roof takes on water first, from ice dams in January and heavy runoff in spring storms.
  • Factory starter at the eaves and rakes. It’s a purpose-made starter strip with factory adhesive, not cut-up field shingles, so the edges stay sealed.
  • Owens Corning Hip & Ridge on the hips and peak. Matching cap shingles made for the job, not field shingles cut into pieces.
  • Lomanco Omni Roll ridge vent. It runs along the peak and lets hot, damp attic air escape. That protects the decking and keeps shingles from baking from below.

Common questions about this job

What shingle was installed on this St. Louis roof?

Owens Corning OC Duration, over 15 lb felt underlayment. The full system is in the project details table above.

How big was the roof on Queen Anne Place?

19.67 squares, or about 1,967 square feet of roof surface. A roofing square is 100 square feet. Roofs are measured and priced that way, not by the square footage of the floor plan.

How long did this project take from start to finish?

65 days from the day the job was opened to the day the crew finished. Most of that time is scheduling, material ordering and any insurance paperwork. The tear-off and install usually take a day or two on a house this size.

What kind of ventilation went on this roof?

A Lomanco Omni Roll ridge vent along the peak. Paired with soffit intake, it lets hot, moist attic air escape.

Do you publish the customer's address?

No. We publish the street name, city and ZIP so you can see we really work in your neighborhood. We leave off the house number and never publish a customer's name.
