Terra Cotta is part of the OC Duration color lineup. Keep in mind a swatch is a starting point. On the roof, the color shifts with the angle of the sun, the pitch and what’s around it. It's a less common choice. Only 2 of our recent projects used it. That’s why we bring full-size samples out and hold them up against the house in daylight.
What went on this roof
The feature that defines Owens Corning Duration is SureNail Technology, a tough woven fabric band in the nailing zone that the fasteners go through for better hold. Every one of our replacements is a system, not just shingles. On this roof, from the deck up:
- 15 lb felt underlayment. Felt went down over the deck under the shingles.
- Self-sealing ice and water membrane where water concentrates. It seals around every nail driven through it, which matters in valleys and at the eaves.
- OC Starter at the eaves and rakes. It’s a purpose-made starter strip with factory adhesive, not cut-up field shingles, so the edges stay sealed.
- OC ProEdge Hip & Ridge on the hips and peak. Matching cap shingles made for the job, not field shingles cut into pieces.
- Lomanco Omni Roll ridge vent. It runs along the peak and lets hot, damp attic air escape. That protects the decking and keeps shingles from baking from below.
