The color on this roof

The work order lists the color as Storm Cloud. That name isn’t in our Owens Corning TruDefinition Duration color gallery, so we’re not showing a swatch that might be the wrong one. The image above is the shingle line itself. Your project manager can bring a full-size sample of any color out to your house. You can also browse every OC Duration color here.

The roofing system on this house

Owens Corning TruDefinition Duration uses SureNail Technology, a woven strip across the nailing zone that gives the fasteners something to grab and helps the shingle stay down in high wind. The shingle is only the top layer. Here’s the full system that went on this house:

  • Synthetic underlayment over the whole deck. It’s stronger and more tear-resistant than felt, and it lies flat if weather rolls in during the tear-off.
  • Ice and water membrane at the eaves and in the valleys. This self-adhering layer goes where water backs up: behind ice dams at the eaves and where two slopes meet.
  • OC Starter at the eaves and rakes. It’s a purpose-made starter strip with factory adhesive, not cut-up field shingles, so the edges stay sealed.
  • OC ProEdge Hip & Ridge on the hips and peak. Matching cap shingles made for the job, not field shingles cut into pieces.
  • Lomanco Omni Roll ridge vent. Continuous exhaust at the peak. Together with the soffit intake, it moves heat and moisture out of the attic.

The crew behind this roof

The crew came out of our St. Louis office. From the day the job was opened (August 18, 2026) to the day the crew finished (September 30, 2026) took 43 days. John Beal Roofing has been family-run since 1947, and our lifetime workmanship warranty covers the installation for as long as you own the home. If a storm opens up a roof at 2 a.m., someone answers the phone. See 24/7 emergency service.
