Why this house went with Driftshake

Driftshake is part of the IKO Dynasty color lineup. Keep in mind a swatch is a starting point. On the roof, the color shifts with the angle of the sun, the pitch and what’s around it. Driftshake has been one of the more popular picks lately: it went on 5 of the roofs in this recent-projects set. Our project managers bring real samples to the house so you can see them next to your brick, siding and trim.

The roofing system on this house

Dynasty is IKO's performance architectural shingle. Its signature is ArmourZone, a reinforced fabric strip across the nailing area that gives every nail a wide, tough landing spot. The shingle is only the top layer. Here’s the full system that went on this house:

  • Synthetic underlayment over the whole deck. It’s stronger and more tear-resistant than felt, and it lies flat if weather rolls in during the tear-off.
  • Self-sealing ice and water membrane where water concentrates. It seals around every nail driven through it, which matters in valleys and at the eaves.
  • IKO Starter at the eaves and rakes. It’s a purpose-made starter strip with factory adhesive, not cut-up field shingles, so the edges stay sealed.
  • IKO Hip & Ridge cap. Pre-formed cap that seals the hips and ridge.
  • Lomanco Omni Roll ridge vent. Continuous exhaust at the peak. Together with the soffit intake, it moves heat and moisture out of the attic.
