Why “Duration colors” is really five color lists
Homeowners search for Owens Corning Duration colors expecting one chart. In practice, Duration is a family. All of the lines share Owens Corning’s SureNail nailing strip and the same basic architectural look, but each line has its own palette. Some colors appear in almost every line; others are exclusive to one. The easiest way to choose is to decide on the line first, based on budget and storm exposure, and then pick a color inside it.
TruDefinition Duration — 15 colors
This is the Duration most homes in St. Louis and Kansas City end up with, and the Owens Corning line our crews install most often. Its palette is the widest: Onyx Black, Estate Gray, Driftwood, Brownwood, Teak, Sierra Gray, Slatestone Gray, Williamsburg Gray, Colonial Slate, Peppercorn, Sand Castle, Desert Rose, Terra Cotta, Chateau Green and Midnight Plum. See them on full houses on our TruDefinition Duration color page.
Duration Designer — 11 colors
Designer is for homeowners who want a roof color that stands out more than the everyday grays and browns: Aged Copper, Black Sable, Bourbon, Evergreen Mist, Gray Tweed, Merlot, Mountain Pine, Pacific Wave, Sand Dune, Sedona Canyon and Summer Harvest. These blends mix more granule colors, so they read richer up close and still look natural from the street. See Duration Designer colors.
Duration FLEX — 9 colors
FLEX uses a polymer-modified asphalt that stays more flexible, especially in cold weather, and it is built for impact resistance. Its colors: Onyx Black, Estate Gray, Driftwood, Brownwood, Teak, Black Sable, Sand Dune, Storm Cloud and Summer Harvest. See Duration FLEX colors.
Duration STORM — 7 colors
STORM is Owens Corning’s Class 4 impact-resistant Duration, aimed at homes in hail-prone areas. It comes in Onyx Black, Estate Gray, Driftwood, Brownwood, Teak, Desert Tan and Antique Silver. Some insurers offer premium credits for Class 4 roofs; ask your agent before you choose. See Duration STORM colors.
Duration Premium — 6 colors
Duration Premium comes in a short list of the most popular neutrals: Onyx Black, Estate Gray, Driftwood, Brownwood, Teak and Desert Tan. See Duration Premium colors.

- A simple neutral: Duration Premium.
During your inspection we can explain the trade-offs for your roof and your insurance situation.
Matching a Duration color to your house
Start with the parts of the exterior you are keeping. Red and orange brick usually look best with warm browns like Teak, Brownwood or Desert Rose. Gray stone and cool siding pair with Estate Gray, Sierra Gray or Williamsburg Gray. White or light siding with black windows suits Onyx Black or Black Sable. Driftwood is the in-between blend that works on mixed exteriors. Look at a real sample outside in morning and afternoon light, and from the street, before you decide.
Darker vs. lighter roofs in our climate
Darker roofs absorb more summer heat, and lighter ones reflect more of it. In a St. Louis or Kansas City summer, attic ventilation matters more than shingle color, but if your attic runs hot, a mid-tone such as Driftwood or Estate Gray is a reasonable middle ground. Ask us to check ventilation during the inspection.
