The color on this roof: Shadow Brown

Shadow Brown is part of the IKO Dynasty color lineup. Keep in mind a swatch is a starting point. On the roof, the color shifts with the angle of the sun, the pitch and what’s around it. Shadow Brown has been one of the more popular picks lately: it went on 19 of the roofs in this recent-projects set. If you like it, ask us to bring a full-size piece out and hold it up against your own house.

Materials installed, layer by layer

Dynasty is IKO's performance architectural shingle. Its signature is ArmourZone, a reinforced fabric strip across the nailing area that gives every nail a wide, tough landing spot. Every one of our replacements is a system, not just shingles. On this roof, from the deck up:

  • Synthetic underlayment over the whole deck. It’s stronger and more tear-resistant than felt, and it lies flat if weather rolls in during the tear-off.
  • Self-sealing ice and water membrane where water concentrates. It seals around every nail driven through it, which matters in valleys and at the eaves.
  • IKO Starter at the eaves and rakes. It’s a purpose-made starter strip with factory adhesive, not cut-up field shingles, so the edges stay sealed.
  • IKO Hip & Ridge cap. Pre-formed cap that seals the hips and ridge.
  • Lomanco Omni Roll ridge vent. It runs along the peak and lets hot, damp attic air escape. That protects the decking and keeps shingles from baking from below.
