The color on this roof: Shadow Brown

The homeowner picked Shadow Brown from the IKO Dynasty line. The swatch above is the manufacturer’s image of that blend. On a real roof it will read a little different depending on pitch, which way each slope faces and how much sun it gets. Shadow Brown has been one of the more popular picks lately: it went on 22 of the roofs in this recent-projects set. If you like it, ask us to bring a full-size piece out and hold it up against your own house.

What went on this roof

Dynasty is IKO's performance architectural shingle. Its signature is ArmourZone, a reinforced fabric strip across the nailing area that gives every nail a wide, tough landing spot. People shop for the shingle, but what’s underneath it and how the edges are finished decide how long the roof lasts. On this job:

  • A full layer of synthetic underlayment. It’s the backup water barrier under the shingles, and it holds up to foot traffic and wind far better than paper felt.
  • Ice and water shield in the valleys and along the eaves. Those are the two places a Midwest roof takes on water first, from ice dams in January and heavy runoff in spring storms.
  • IKO Starter at the eaves and rakes. It’s a purpose-made starter strip with factory adhesive, not cut-up field shingles, so the edges stay sealed.
  • IKO Hip & Ridge cap. Pre-formed cap that seals the hips and ridge.
  • Lomanco Omni Roll ridge vent. Continuous exhaust at the peak. Together with the soffit intake, it moves heat and moisture out of the attic.

The crew behind this roof

We’ve been family-owned since 1947, and every roof comes with our lifetime workmanship warranty on top of the manufacturer’s material coverage.
