The color on this roof: Shadow Brown
Shadow Brown is part of the IKO Dynasty color lineup. Keep in mind a swatch is a starting point. On the roof, the color shifts with the angle of the sun, the pitch and what’s around it. Shadow Brown has been one of the more popular picks lately: it went on 19 of the roofs in this recent-projects set. That’s why we bring full-size samples out and hold them up against the house in daylight.
The roofing system on this house
IKO Dynasty is a laminated architectural shingle built around a wide reinforced nailing strip IKO calls ArmourZone, which gives the installer a generous target and holds the fasteners where they belong. Every one of our replacements is a system, not just shingles. On this roof, from the deck up:
- A full layer of synthetic underlayment. It’s the backup water barrier under the shingles, and it holds up to foot traffic and wind far better than paper felt.
- Ice and water membrane at the eaves and in the valleys. This self-adhering layer goes where water backs up: behind ice dams at the eaves and where two slopes meet.
- IKO Starter strip along every edge. The first course is where wind gets under a roof. A factory starter with its own sealant line locks it down.
- IKO Hip & Ridge cap. Pre-formed cap that seals the hips and ridge.
- Lomanco Omni Roll ridge vent. It runs along the peak and lets hot, damp attic air escape. That protects the decking and keeps shingles from baking from below.
