Materials installed, layer by layer

The feature that defines Owens Corning Duration is SureNail Technology, a tough woven fabric band in the nailing zone that the fasteners go through for better hold. The shingle is only the top layer. Here’s the full system that went on this house:

  • Synthetic underlayment, edge to edge. It doesn’t wrinkle or tear like felt, and it keeps the deck dry if a shower pops up mid-job.
  • Self-sealing ice and water membrane where water concentrates. It seals around every nail driven through it, which matters in valleys and at the eaves.
  • IKO Starter strip along every edge. The first course is where wind gets under a roof. A factory starter with its own sealant line locks it down.
  • Owens Corning Hip & Ridge on the hips and peak. Matching cap shingles made for the job, not field shingles cut into pieces.
  • Lomanco Omni Roll ridge vent. It runs along the peak and lets hot, damp attic air escape. That protects the decking and keeps shingles from baking from below.

Who installed it

John Beal Roofing crews out of our St. Louis office installed this roof. From the day the job was opened (August 7, 2026) to the day the crew finished (October 8, 2026) took 62 days. We’ve been family-owned since 1947, and every roof comes with our lifetime workmanship warranty on top of the manufacturer’s material coverage. If a storm opens up a roof at 2 a.m., someone answers the phone. See 24/7 emergency service.
