What went on this roof

GAF Royal Sovereign is a traditional three-tab shingle, a flat, uniform look that suits smaller sections, outbuildings and homes originally built with three-tab. Every one of our replacements is a system, not just shingles. On this roof, from the deck up:

  • Two layers of synthetic underlayment. That’s double our standard spec. The second layer adds another barrier under the shingles.
  • Ice and water membrane at the eaves and in the valleys. This self-adhering layer goes where water backs up: behind ice dams at the eaves and where two slopes meet.
  • GAF Starter at the eaves and rakes. It’s a purpose-made starter strip with factory adhesive, not cut-up field shingles, so the edges stay sealed.
  • GAF Hip & Ridge on the hips and peak. Matching cap shingles made for the job, not field shingles cut into pieces.
  • Lomanco Omni Roll ridge vent. Continuous exhaust at the peak. Together with the soffit intake, it moves heat and moisture out of the attic.
