Why this house went with Brownwood
This house got Brownwood. A small swatch never tells the whole story, because a full roof reads lighter or darker depending on how the slopes face and the light hits them. It's a less common choice. Only 2 of our recent projects used it. If you like it, ask us to bring a full-size piece out and hold it up against your own house.
The roofing system on this house
Owens Corning TruDefinition Duration uses SureNail Technology, a woven strip across the nailing zone that gives the fasteners something to grab and helps the shingle stay down in high wind. Every one of our replacements is a system, not just shingles. On this roof, from the deck up:
- Two layers of synthetic underlayment. That’s double our standard spec. The second layer adds another barrier under the shingles.
- Ice and water membrane at the eaves and in the valleys. This self-adhering layer goes where water backs up: behind ice dams at the eaves and where two slopes meet.
- Factory starter at the eaves and rakes. It’s a purpose-made starter strip with factory adhesive, not cut-up field shingles, so the edges stay sealed.
- Owens Corning Hip & Ridge cap. Pre-formed cap that seals the hips and ridge.
- Lomanco Omni Roll ridge vent. Continuous exhaust at the peak. Together with the soffit intake, it moves heat and moisture out of the attic.
