What went on this roof

GAF Royal Sovereign is a traditional three-tab shingle, a flat, uniform look that suits smaller sections, outbuildings and homes originally built with three-tab. The shingle is only the top layer. Here’s the full system that went on this house:

  • A full layer of synthetic underlayment. It’s the backup water barrier under the shingles, and it holds up to foot traffic and wind far better than paper felt.
  • Ice and water membrane at the eaves and in the valleys. This self-adhering layer goes where water backs up: behind ice dams at the eaves and where two slopes meet.
  • Factory starter strip along every edge. The first course is where wind gets under a roof. A factory starter with its own sealant line locks it down.
  • GAF Hip & Ridge cap. Pre-formed cap that seals the hips and ridge.
  • Lomanco Omni Roll ridge vent. It runs along the peak and lets hot, damp attic air escape. That protects the decking and keeps shingles from baking from below.

Who installed it

John Beal Roofing crews out of our St. Louis office installed this roof. The job was opened in our system on September 11, 2026 and the crew finished on October 1, 2026, 20 days later. We’ve been family-owned since 1947, and every roof comes with our lifetime workmanship warranty on top of the manufacturer’s material coverage. If a storm opens up a roof at 2 a.m., someone answers the phone. See 24/7 emergency service.

GAF GAF Royal Sovereign, over synthetic underlayment across the full deck. The full system is in the project details table above.

A Lomanco Omni Roll ridge vent along the peak. Paired with soffit intake, it lets hot, moist attic air escape.
