The color on this roof
The work order lists the color as Shasta White. That name isn’t in our Owens Corning TruDefinition Duration color gallery, so we’re not showing a swatch that might be the wrong one. The image above is the shingle line itself. Your project manager can bring a full-size sample of any color out to your house. You can also browse every OC Duration color here.
Materials installed, layer by layer
The feature that defines Owens Corning Duration is SureNail Technology, a tough woven fabric band in the nailing zone that the fasteners go through for better hold. Every one of our replacements is a system, not just shingles. On this roof, from the deck up:
- Synthetic underlayment over the whole deck. It’s stronger and more tear-resistant than felt, and it lies flat if weather rolls in during the tear-off.
- Ice and water membrane at the eaves and in the valleys. This self-adhering layer goes where water backs up: behind ice dams at the eaves and where two slopes meet.
- OC Starter at the eaves and rakes. It’s a purpose-made starter strip with factory adhesive, not cut-up field shingles, so the edges stay sealed.
- OC ProEdge Hip & Ridge on the hips and peak. Matching cap shingles made for the job, not field shingles cut into pieces.
- Lomanco Omni Roll ridge vent. It runs along the peak and lets hot, damp attic air escape. That protects the decking and keeps shingles from baking from below.
