What makes IKO Dynasty different

Dynasty is IKO’s flagship architectural shingle and the IKO line with the widest color range. It is built with IKO’s reinforced ArmourZone nailing strip, and its color blends are designed to give a dimensional, high-contrast look from the street. For Midwest homeowners, that combination means you get a strong mainstream shingle with more color choice than IKO’s value line, Cambridge, offers. If you are comparing, our guide to all IKO shingle colors lays the lines out side by side.

Dynasty grays and blacks

Granite Black, Blackstone, Summit Grey, Frostone Grey, Glacier and Sentinel Slate form the cool side of Dynasty. Granite Black and Blackstone are the deepest; they give a sharp, modern outline on white or light gray siding, and they suit black-window farmhouse exteriors. Summit Grey and Frostone Grey are lighter, softer grays that look clean on colonials and ranches. Glacier is the lightest gray in the line and brightens a home with pale siding. Sentinel Slate carries a blue-gray tone that pairs with navy shutters and cool stone.

Dynasty browns and wood tones

Olde Style Weatherwood, Driftshake, Cornerstone, Shadow Brown and Brownstone are the warm side. Olde Style Weatherwood mixes brown and gray and is the safest pick when an exterior has both warm and cool elements. Driftshake has a lighter, weathered-wood feel. Cornerstone sits between brown and gray and is easy to live with. Shadow Brown and Brownstone are the richer browns that work best with red and orange brick, cedar accents and earth-tone siding.

Dynasty accent colors

Atlantic Blue, Biscayne, Monaco Red and Emerald Green are the statement colors. They suit lake homes, cottages, farmhouses and Victorians where the roof is meant to be a design feature. Because a roof lasts decades, look at accent colors on a whole-house photo, check any HOA or historic-district rules, and ask yourself whether you will still love it in fifteen years.

Matching a Dynasty color to your exterior

  • Hold samples against your brick or stone first; those cannot be repainted.
  • Match undertones — warm brick with Brownstone or Shadow Brown, cool stone with Summit Grey or Sentinel Slate.
  • Use contrast deliberately: a dark roof over light siding reads crisp, a light roof over dark siding reads soft.
  • Look at the roof from the street and from across the street; blends merge into one color at distance.
  • Look again on a cloudy day. Midwest overcast makes browns look darker and grays look bluer.

Dynasty vs. Cambridge vs. Nordic

Cambridge is IKO’s value architectural line with 8 colors, a good fit when budget is the main concern; see our IKO Cambridge colors guide. Nordic is IKO’s premium performance line with 6 colors, all shared with Dynasty: Olde Style Weatherwood, Granite Black, Shadow Brown, Summit Grey, Glacier and Driftshake. Dynasty sits in the middle with the broadest palette. Many homeowners pick the color first, then choose the line that offers it at the right level.

Dynasty on common Midwest home styles

  • Red brick ranch: Brownstone or Shadow Brown echo the brick; Olde Style Weatherwood softens it.
  • White or light gray siding: Granite Black or Blackstone for contrast, Summit Grey for a softer, classic look.
  • Tan or almond siding: Driftshake or Cornerstone keep the house warm and cohesive.
  • Cool stone front: Sentinel Slate or Frostone Grey pick up the blue-gray in limestone and fieldstone.
  • Cottage, lake house or farmhouse: Atlantic Blue, Emerald Green or Monaco Red when you want the roof to be part of the design.

How roof color affects curb appeal and resale

Buyers form an opinion from the curb in seconds, and the roof is one of the largest surfaces they see. Neutral, well-matched colors appeal to the widest range of buyers, which is why the grays and the brown-gray blends are so popular when homeowners expect to sell within a few years. If you plan to stay for decades, choose the color you love, as long as it suits the house and the street. Either way, a clean new roof with matched ridge caps and straight lines adds visible value.

Confirming your color before the order

Color availability can vary between distributors, and shingle blends can shift slightly from one production run to the next. We confirm your exact Dynasty color with the supplier, make sure all bundles come from matching lots wherever possible, and match the ridge cap to the field color. Ask to see a physical sample on your home before the order is final.

What to expect as a Dynasty roof ages

A new asphalt roof sheds a small amount of loose granules in its first months; seeing some in the gutters after the first few rains is normal. Over the years, sun and weather gradually soften the contrast of any blend, so a roof that looks bold on install day settles into a slightly calmer tone. That is one reason many homeowners pick a shade a step darker or more contrasting than their first instinct. Dark streaks on north-facing slopes are usually algae, not dirt, and can be addressed without pressure washing, which damages shingles. Keeping gutters clear, trimming overhanging limbs and scheduling an inspection after major hail or wind keeps a Dynasty roof looking and performing the way it should. If you ever see granule loss in one area, lifted tabs or exposed mat, call us — those are signs of damage rather than normal aging, and they may be covered if a storm caused them.
