How IKO organizes its colors

IKO is one of the largest shingle manufacturers in North America, and its residential colors are spread across lines built for different looks and budgets. Many homeowners start by searching for “IKO shingle colors” and find a long, confusing list. It is easier to choose in two steps: first pick the look and budget (which line), then pick the color inside it. Some colors appear in more than one line, which lets you keep a look while moving up or down in performance and price.

IKO Dynasty — 15 colors

Dynasty is IKO’s flagship architectural shingle with its reinforced ArmourZone nailing strip and the widest palette: Olde Style Weatherwood, Granite Black, Cornerstone, Atlantic Blue, Glacier, Shadow Brown, Summit Grey, Biscayne, Monaco Red, Frostone Grey, Emerald Green, Driftshake, Brownstone, Sentinel Slate and Blackstone. Read our full IKO Dynasty colors guide.

IKO Cambridge — 8 colors

Cambridge is IKO’s value architectural line: Dual Black, Weatherwood, Charcoal Grey, Driftwood, Dual Grey, Dual Brown, Earthtone Cedar and Harvard Slate. It suits rentals, homes being prepared for sale and budget-focused replacements. See our IKO Cambridge colors guide.

IKO Nordic — 6 colors

Nordic is IKO’s premium performance architectural line. Its six colors — Olde Style Weatherwood, Granite Black, Shadow Brown, Summit Grey, Glacier and Driftshake — are all shared with Dynasty, so if you love one of those colors and want IKO’s top performance line, Nordic offers it. Ask during your inspection whether Nordic makes sense for your home’s storm exposure and your insurance situation.

IKO Armourshake — 4 colors

Armourshake is designed to look like thick wood shakes without the maintenance of real cedar: Chalet Wood, Greystone, Shadow Black and Weathered Stone. It suits rustic, craftsman and lake-home styles, including cabins around the Lake of the Ozarks.

IKO Royal Estate and Crowne Slate — the slate looks

Royal Estate offers four slate-look colors: Harvest Slate, Mountain Slate, Shadow Slate and Taupe Slate. Crowne Slate comes in one, Royal Granite. Both give the elegant, layered look of natural slate on older brick homes, Tudors and high-end houses at a fraction of real slate’s weight and cost.

IKO Marathon Plus AR — 2 colors

Marathon Plus AR is IKO’s traditional 3-tab shingle, offered here in Dual Black and Weatherwood. Three-tab shingles are flatter and simpler than architectural shingles. They are most often used for matching existing 3-tab roofs, outbuildings, or very budget-limited projects.

Choosing the line first

  • Most homes: Dynasty, for the widest palette in a strong mainstream shingle.
  • Budget or selling soon: Cambridge.
  • Top performance: Nordic.
  • Wood-shake look: Armourshake.
  • Slate look: Royal Estate or Crowne Slate.
  • Matching an old 3-tab roof or outbuilding: Marathon Plus AR.

Choosing the color second

Start with what you are keeping — brick, stone and siding — and match the undertone. Warm red and orange brick pairs with browns such as Brownstone, Shadow Brown or Dual Brown. Cool stone and gray siding pair with Summit Grey, Sentinel Slate or Harvard Slate. White siding with black windows suits Granite Black, Blackstone or Dual Black. When a home mixes warm and cool, the Weatherwood blends bridge the gap. Look at samples outdoors in morning and afternoon light, and from the street.

Colors shared between lines

Because Nordic’s colors all appear in Dynasty, and Weatherwood-type blends appear in Dynasty, Cambridge and Marathon Plus AR, you can often choose the look you want and then pick the line that fits your budget and performance goals. This also helps HOAs that need consistency across buildings while owners choose different lines.
