Owens Corning Duration STORM Colors
Duration STORM is the Owens Corning Class 4 impact-resistant shingle for homes in hail country. A polymer backing layer called WeatherGuard is bonded to the back of each shingle, which lets STORM earn the UL 2218 Class 4 rating, the highest impact rating in that test. It has the same SureNail nailing strip and TruDefinition color blends as the rest of the Duration family, in seven colors.
Choose STORM when you want a Class 4 roof in a classic Duration color. Some insurance companies give a discount for Class 4 shingles, so ask your agent.

Antique Silver
Antique Silver is the lightest color in the STORM line: a clean, neutral light gray made from white and gray granules. It keeps a house looking crisp against white, gray or blue siding and does not pull warm. Antique Silver is only offered in the STORM line on our Owens Corning pages.

Brownwood
Brownwood is a deep, warm brown. The black, brown and orange granules give it more depth than a flat brown, and it pairs well with red brick, cream siding and stone. The Brownwood color is also offered in TruDefinition Duration, Oakridge, Duration FLEX, Duration Premium.

Desert Tan
Desert Tan is a medium golden brown built from buff, golden tan and dark brown granules. It is the warmest, lightest brown in the line. Owens Corning has not released a house photo for Desert Tan in STORM, so ask us for a full-size sample before you choose it. The Desert Tan color is also offered in Oakridge.

Driftwood
Driftwood sits between brown and gray. Green, gray and brown granules blend into a medium weathered-wood tone that works with almost any siding color, which is why it is one of the most-installed colors we put on Midwest homes. The Driftwood color is also offered in TruDefinition Duration, Oakridge, Duration FLEX, Duration Premium.

Estate Gray
Estate Gray is a medium gray with a slight green cast from its light, medium and dark greenish-gray granules. It is a safe middle gray for homes with gray, white or tan exteriors. The Estate Gray color is also offered in TruDefinition Duration, Oakridge, Duration FLEX, Duration Premium.

Onyx Black

Duration STORM vs. Duration FLEX
Owens Corning makes two Class 4 Duration shingles, and homeowners ask us to compare them all the time. FLEX is made with SBS rubberized asphalt, so the whole shingle stays flexible when hail hits it. STORM uses standard asphalt and gets its impact rating from the WeatherGuard backing layer. Both carry the UL 2218 Class 4 rating. The practical differences for most homeowners are color choice and what your insurer asks for. We price both on the same estimate so you can compare.

How many colors does Owens Corning Duration STORM come in?
Seven: Antique Silver, Brownwood, Desert Tan, Driftwood, Estate Gray, Onyx Black, Teak. Owens Corning adds and retires colors by region, so we confirm the current list with our supplier when we write your estimate.
What is the difference between Duration STORM and Duration FLEX?
Both carry the UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating, the highest rating in that test. FLEX gets there with SBS polymer-modified asphalt that stays flexible. STORM uses standard asphalt with WeatherGuard, a polymer backing layer bonded to the back of the shingle. STORM has seven colors, including Antique Silver and Desert Tan, which FLEX does not offer.
Will a Duration STORM roof lower my homeowners insurance?
It can. Some insurance companies give a premium discount for a Class 4 impact-rated roof. It depends on your carrier and your state, so call your agent before you sign. We give you the product paperwork your agent asks for.
Is Duration STORM available in St. Louis and Kansas City?
Yes. Owens Corning sells STORM across the Midwest hail belt, including Missouri, Illinois and Kansas. Supply can be limited at times, so we confirm the color for your address before your roof is scheduled.
Do I need special hip and ridge shingles with Duration STORM?
Yes. To get the full Class 4 impact-resistant roof system and warranty coverage, Owens Corning requires matching impact-resistant hip and ridge shingles. We include them in every STORM estimate.
