Legacy Scotchgard is Malarkey's top architectural shingle. It is thicker and tougher than Vista AR, built on Malarkey's rubberized asphalt with a Class 4 hail impact rating under UL 2218, and it uses 3M Scotchgard copper granules to fight black algae streaks. Malarkey pairs it with a limited lifetime shingle warranty, a 20-year non-prorated period and a limited lifetime algae warranty, and the line meets IBHS FORTIFIED roof requirements.

What makes Legacy Scotchgard different from other Malarkey shingles?
Legacy is Malarkey's thickest architectural shingle, with about 35% more tear strength than standard shingles and 3M Scotchgard copper granules for algae resistance. It also meets IBHS FORTIFIED roof requirements.
Is Legacy Scotchgard worth the upgrade over Vista AR?
If you plan to stay in the house a long time, the longer 20-year non-prorated period and lifetime algae warranty are the main reasons to step up. Both lines are Class 4 and have the same colors.
Does Legacy help with hail in St. Louis and Kansas City?
Legacy is rated Class 4 under UL 2218, which is lab testing with steel balls. No shingle is hail-proof, but a Class 4 shingle holds up better against the hail we see in the Midwest.
