The roofing system on this house

GAF Timberline HDZ is a laminated architectural shingle built with GAF LayerLock Technology, which bonds the shingle layers together, and a wide StrikeZone nailing area that gives the installer a large, clearly marked target. The shingle is only the top layer. Here’s the full system that went on this house:

  • Synthetic underlayment, edge to edge. It doesn’t wrinkle or tear like felt, and it keeps the deck dry if a shower pops up mid-job.
  • Ice and water shield in the valleys and along the eaves. Those are the two places a Midwest roof takes on water first, from ice dams in January and heavy runoff in spring storms.
  • GAF Starter strip along every edge. The first course is where wind gets under a roof. A factory starter with its own sealant line locks it down.
  • GAF Hip & Ridge cap. Pre-formed cap that seals the hips and ridge.
  • Lomanco Omni Roll ridge vent. It runs along the peak and lets hot, damp attic air escape. That protects the decking and keeps shingles from baking from below.
