The color on this roof: Driftshake
This house got Driftshake. A small swatch never tells the whole story, because a full roof reads lighter or darker depending on how the slopes face and the light hits them. Driftshake has been one of the more popular picks lately: it went on 5 of the roofs in this recent-projects set. If you like it, ask us to bring a full-size piece out and hold it up against your own house.
The roofing system on this house
IKO Dynasty is a laminated architectural shingle built around a wide reinforced nailing strip IKO calls ArmourZone, which gives the installer a generous target and holds the fasteners where they belong. The shingle is only the top layer. Here’s the full system that went on this house:
- Synthetic underlayment over the whole deck. It’s stronger and more tear-resistant than felt, and it lies flat if weather rolls in during the tear-off.
- Ice and water membrane at the eaves and in the valleys. This self-adhering layer goes where water backs up: behind ice dams at the eaves and where two slopes meet.
- IKO Starter strip along every edge. The first course is where wind gets under a roof. A factory starter with its own sealant line locks it down.
- IKO Hip & Ridge on the hips and peak. Matching cap shingles made for the job, not field shingles cut into pieces.
- Lomanco Omni Roll ridge vent. It runs along the peak and lets hot, damp attic air escape. That protects the decking and keeps shingles from baking from below.

IKO IKO Dynasty in Driftshake, over synthetic underlayment across the full deck. The full system is in the project details table above.
How long did this project take from start to finish?
35 days from the day the job was opened to the day the crew finished. Most of that time is scheduling, material ordering and any insurance paperwork. The tear-off and install usually take a day or two on a house this size.

Yes. Alco Ice & Water membrane went in the valleys and along the eaves, the spots where water backs up or collects first.
