A city that knows storm damage
Jefferson City still remembers May 22, 2019, when an EF-3 tornado tore through the east side and downtown overnight. Hundreds of homes and businesses had roofs opened up in the dark. Most storms are smaller than that, but the lesson holds: the first night after the damage is when a house takes on the most water.
Many homes near the Capitol and in older parts of town have steep roofs, brick chimneys and big trees on hillside lots. That makes tarping slower and more technical than on a flat suburban lot, and it is why we look at access and safety before anyone climbs.
Areas we tarp
Jefferson City, Holts Summit, Wardsville, Taos, St. Martins, Russellville, California and the rest of Cole and Callaway counties.
Before the crew arrives
- Leave the house if you smell gas or see sparking lines, then call the utility.
- Close off any room where water is coming through the ceiling.
- Photograph the damage inside and out before cleaning up.
- Call (573) 343-8993 and describe the slope, trees and access so the crew brings the right gear.
